One of four things has happened here: Someone Pat Robertson knows has a kid who was busted with weed; God Himself Told Pat Robertson To End The Pot War; Pat Robertson has discovered Secular Humanism; or finally, just maybe, just per chance, Pat Robertson, of all people, realizes the pyrrhic futility of the war on pot, and the hypocrisy of economic deregulation without a commensurate social deregulation.
I would love to think it's the last and not the first. I actually suspect my hopes are well-placed. I can't believe I'm saying this, but here'goes...
Thank You Pat Robertson!

With all the money involved in the war on drugs, the feds will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to quit locking up people for pot.
"A funny thing happened on the way to a trial in Missoula County District Court last week.
Jurors – well, potential jurors – staged a revolt.
They took the law into their own hands, as it were, and made it clear they weren’t about to convict anybody for having a couple of buds of marijuana. Never mind that the defendant in question also faced a felony charge of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs"
We the people are smarter than they our keepers. It seems.
That's why we have the Courts. Our Founders were very clever with that one. I always laugh when people talk about "activist courts" and "frivolous lawsuit." There's just so much more to it than "litigating from the bench" or "threatening companies with trials." Juries (who make up a lot of "activist" decisions, by the way) are the public voice of the courts. We have and have always had that. Our juries have made some of the most important dispositive decisions in our history.
They are also a threat to the corporate clients of attorneys. Juries are people first and constitutional scholars usually a distant 397th. But they do know right from wrong, and they do sometimes use cases to make points. In this case the jury basically said, 'why the hell are you trifling with this stupid charge?'
Good for them. Talk about "frivolous lawasuits!" LOL! ;)
I too fail to see why we are busting people for pot.
Being a libertarian, I think all personal use should eventually be decriminalized. But the other side of that is government cannot be picking up the tab for idiots who blow their brains out on the stuff. No drug-related disability!
Also, the question of distribution comes in.
Kids getting their hands on crack or LSD is a hell of a lot worse than a jug of wine.

I had to ride the google express to find this place!
Woodstock was the most peaceful event of it's size in history and had plenty of pot smokers. And you don't need to keep doing every half hour like people do with crack and meth. So that makes it more economical too because it lasts alot longer.
God, I really love it when we all agree! That's the best Christmas present of all!
Silver - I don't know! Let me check it out. It could be that this is a relatively brand new blog. I've been blogging for a decade now, so I get a little confused with what all I'm doing. Thanks for the heads-up though!
I too believe the distribution of dangerous narcotics, like meth, cocaine, heroine and such, as well as the illegal distribution of dangerous prescription drugs, like percoset, oxycontin, methadone and such, should be evenly fought accross the board with vigorous law enforcement. These are poisons and must be regulated. Pot is just a little bad for your lungs, and maybe taste in movies, I guess. Otherwise, harmless.
Just the same, any driving, working, operating equipment, in the public arena while intoxicated in any way can and sometimes should be a violation of law, beyond just employer sanctions.

I'm feeling all warm inside... We should enjoy it while it lasts, I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunity to disagree in 2011.
Have a happy and safe New Year Jersey!
